Introduced
by a classmate, brother Sokha came to work at Raising Center. In just three
months' time, his whole life changed. On the day when Master opened the new
Guest House in Raising Center, he excitedly got initiated and formally became
a member of the big Quan Yin family.
Having
just graduated from the school of architecture, brother Sokha had the very good
fortune to participate in the designing and development of Raising Center. He
not only designed and made blue-prints for the buildings, but also acted as
interpreter in the communication with the Cambodian workers. During the work,
he noticed that the initiated classmate was outstanding in his performance.
His designs were even better than those learned at the school of architecture.
Besides, his classmate could work energetically despite the fact that he was
working busily and had no time to eat or sleep. It made the very tired Sokha
extremely puzzled and curious. What was the power that made his classmate change
in so short a time? Was it the meditation? Then, with the attitude of longing
to learn meditation, he decided to learn the Convenient Method and got initiated
in a little more than a month's time.
After
learning the meditation, brother Sokha noticed that his own designing ability
became better and quicker. Because of the development of a loving and compassionate
heart, he was more pious to his parents. Now, he can even mail some money back
home to his parents, unlike before initiation when he often drank and hung out
with friends. What he had earned then was only enough to cover his own expenses. Being
believers of Buddhism, his parents were very supportive of his getting initiation
and studies under Master; he happily became a vegetarian. He usually prepared
his own food and explained the benefits of vegetarianism to his family when he
had the chance. Brother Sokha said that very often eating meat at home before
initiation had made him feel disgusted; therefore, he could easily accept the
condition of being a vegetarian.
Now,
when there is a need for wine in social gatherings with friends, he tells them
that wine easily causes ulcer pains, so he just has a soft drink. This behavior
puzzled his friends. Why a man like him who loved wine so much had changed?
However, the whole group are still very happy together. Brother Sokha said that
since he came to work at Raising Center, he has had little time to interact
with his wine-drinking friends. Gradually, he did not want to drink and he would
feel sick even when he smelled the wine. He and his family are very satisfied
with such a change.
Since
working at Raising Center and being together with fellow practitioners day and
night, he has noticed that fellow practitioners are very friendly, compassionate
and have loving hearts. Once, he picked up a gold necklace in the bathroom and
asked the brothers who had lost it. Everyone replied that it did not belong
to them. He was surprised that no one wanted to get possession of the gold necklace.
This made him understand clearly the keeping of the precepts and the incorruptible
spirits of fellow practitioners. Besides, he admired the various talents and
swift actions of fellow practitioners; everyone had taken up several responsibilities.
Even the women are extraordinary and know how to stretch their "excavators".
He described Master's disciples as "super beings".
Although
he has just been initiated, brother Sokha is very moved and overwhelmed by Master's
selfless devotion and concern about the people in the world. He commented that
She is always trying Her best to help others without any regard for Herself.
Moreover, Master's omnipotent power and knowledge about everything has convinced
him that She is a living Buddha. Before, he had a liking for the Buddha and
Bodhisattvas, now he likes Master even more. Once, when he was helping with
the translating and Master went to the main gate to welcome the VIPs, She greeted
him very warmly, filling him with happiness and Her grace. He meditated even
better when he came back. He then realized what was meant by "Master's blessing"
as often mentioned by fellow practitioners.
The pure and simple Cambodian
people seem to have the special care of the Buddha and Bodhisattvas. In this
country of flourishing lotus flowers, it is believed that more and more of Buddha's
children will be born.
