Bedtime Story

~By brother initiate Low Chip Khoon, Singapore
(Originally in English)

A practitioner is captured by a hungry ghost.
The ghost wants to eat him.

The practitioner has no objection, but says,
"Please allow me to remember the Lord before you eat me,
For I have told the Lord that before I die, I wish to remember Hirm."

He sits down, and memories of the Master flood his mind:

The happy times he spent with Master,
The time with fellow initiates,
The time spent doing Master's work.

He also remembers the good things
the Lord has gracefully showered upon him:
The simple life,
The goodness of the human heart,
The pure love he feels in moments of bliss,
The kindness that Nature has shown him.

He remembers all of this, and his soul is at peace.

As he opens his eyes, he tells the ghost,
"I am content.
You can eat me now."

But he is surprised to find that the ghost has tears in his eyes.
It seems the ghost has the power to see into the human heart,
and is touched by what he sees.

"Please go with my blessing," the ghost says,
and vanishes into thin air.
"Thanks for reminding me of the Lord..."

Every being has goodness within.
